Notre Dame (Green Pond) head coach Josh Kopp described his team's 27-18 win over Marian as 'discombobulated.'

While he was happy to earn his first victory at Marian in nine years at the helm of the Crusaders, neither head coach was pleased with his team's offense in the low-scoring affair."I was happy with our effort on the defensive end," said Kopp, who earned the 101st victory of his coaching career. "Offensively we made the extra pass at times and we got rushed at times. We looked discombobulated. The whole game was a discombobulation."The definition of discombobulate is to 'throw somebody into a state of confusion.'Both offenses looked confused during much of Saturday afternoon's nonleague game.The Crusades (15-3) turned the ball over 14 times in the first half, but didn't have much trouble overcoming the miscues as the Fillies (11-6) turned it over 17 times in the first two quarters.Marian ended a low-scoring first period with Bethany Shaud's basket, which made it 7-5 heading into the second. The Fillies didn't make another basket until the fourth quarter.Notre Dame, a Class AA team from the Colonial League, built a 19-6 lead while holding Marian to one point over the middle two quarters."They were very aggressive on defense in both zone and man," said Marian head coach Paul Brutto. "The other side is we just made tons of bad decisions which led to bad passes. When you have six points in three quarters of a high school varsity game, you're not doing a lot of good things on offense."The Fillies went 0-for-11 from the field over the middle two quarters and were just 3-for-13 from the foul line in the game.Notre Dame, which was 0-for-5 playing at Marian during Kopp's career, shot slightly better, making five of 18 attempts in the second and third quarters.Despite all its struggles, Marian turned things around for a stretch in the fourth quarter. Sam Faust and Gabby Green each had five points during a 10-2 run that closed the Crusader lead to 21-16 with 3:14 left in the game.Marian's defense forced eight Notre Dame turnovers in the fourth quarter. But the Fillies got cold down the stretch, including missing the front end of two one and ones, while the Crusaders sealed the game at the line."To play like this after a tough loss at Nativity was not what we wanted or expected," said Brutto. "It was an important game for us in the district situation. You have to respond to the schedule. If you want to be a champion or compete for a championship, you have to respond in a better way than we did."Marian fell to the Golden Girls Thursday after leading by 15 points late in the third quarter.Marian was led by Faust's seven.The Fillies head into Tuesday's game against Shenandoah tied with the Devils for first place Schuylkill League's Division 3 at 6-4."We've got to pull ourselves together because Shenandoah is a big game," Brutto said. "It's for the division title, pretty much. I thought the loss at Nativity would light a fire under us for today. I'm hopeful that two bad performances in a row will do that for us.
