VBC Tomahawks claim title

VBC Tomahawks-Seniors defeated Victorious Secret on Thursday evening at Black Diamond Park in Coaldale to claim the 2013 Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) summer volleyball league championship.

VBC Tomahawks, which entered the playoffs as the third-seed with a regular season record of 18-6, posted a 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 sweep of fifth-seeded Victorious Secret. The Tomahawks cruised through the postseason by winning all nine of their playoffs games, with three-game sweeps over Hope Wreckers, Valley Athletic Supply and Victorious Secret.After cruising to a 10-point victory in the first game, the second and third games were much tighter. Victorious Secret had a 20-19 lead in the second game of the best-of-five series, but the Tomahawks rallied with a 6-1 run to clinch the victory. In the third game of the match, VBC Tomahawks held a slim 23-22 lead before a TJ O'Connor kill and a Victorious Secret hitting error ended the match.O'Connor had 24 of his team's 32 kills on the night and factored in with 10 service points. Cailin McCullion (13 points, four kills) and Marshall Walters (12 points, four kills) also contributed for the Tomahawks.For Victorious Secret, who has lost in the championship game for the second year in a row, Chad Fritzinger had a team-high 12 kills, while Devin Parambo tallied 11 service points.

VBC Tomahawks-Seniors won the 2013 Championship of the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) summer volleyball league on Thursday evening by defeating Victorious Secret 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 in a best-of-five championship match at Black Diamond Park in Coaldale. Members of the winning team include, from left, ESRC Summer Program Director Zack Lakitsky, Cailin McCullion, Marshall Walters, TJ O'Connor, Jess McCarroll, and ESRC Executive Director Jason Boris. Tia Rex and Dallas Seltzer were also members of this year's championship team.
