Tamaqua driver escapes injury

A Tamaqua driver escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:01 p.m. Saturday along Route 209 in the village of Cumbola, Blythe Township.

State police at Frackville said Monica B. Russup, 48, was driving a 1990 Pontiac 6000 southbound and negotiating a left curve when, for unknown reasons, she veered off the road and onto the berm where the car struck a utility pole.Russup was wearing a seat belt. The car had to be towed from the scene. The pole was broken and had to be replaced.Russup was cited for the crash. Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Kaska and New Philadelphia fire companies.
