Route 209 in Franklin Township was closed after the roadway was covered in tar Wednesday afternoon in a freak accident. Just after 2 p.m. it was reported a tar buggy being pulled by a pickup truck southbound had rolled over and spilled its contents of hot tar along the road. Members of the Franklin Township Fire Company responded and applied materials to the tar but later PennDOT officials closed the busy roadway. The roadway was still closed at 9 p.m. Southbound traffic is being rerouted around the scene.
