Pedestrian struck; driver arrested

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck in Schuylkill County and the driver has been arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred about 2:21 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, along SR209, at the intersection with Third Avenue, in Tower City.

Troopers said John J. Mayeresky, 36, of Tower City, was driving a 2000 Ford F150 northbound when Joshua Bordner, 29, no address given, ran across the road directly in Mayeresky's path.The truck struck Bordner throwing him off the hood. He traveled about 75 feet before he landed under a parked pickup truck.After impact with Bordner the Ford continued north and struck a 2007 Jeep Liberty, then continued another 75 feet and struck a 2007 Volkswagen Beetle, and then a 2005 Honda Odyssey, where it came to rest.Bordner was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, and later transferred to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, in serious condition, troopers said.Mayeresky was placed under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) and transported to the SMC-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test.Troopers said charges are pending against Mayeresky.Damages were termed severe to the Ford, Jeep and Volkswagen and moderate to the Honda.
