Members of the Lehighton Area Democratic Club recently presented a check to the Lehighton Area Memorial Library to go toward the cleaning of the library carpeting. From left are, Patti Borger, Linda Benner, Library Director Becky Wanamaker, and Ron Rabenold. The library receives it's funding from various sources in order to keep it's doors open. Private donations such as this make up 10-15 percent of the libraries operating funds. Local libraries have lost a large percentage of the budget's income due to state cuts, and continue to rely on increased participation of the local community. Some additional projects that currently need attention are lighting replacement and updating, ceiling tile cleaning and replacement, refurbishment or replacement of chairs, and replacement of the front desk countertop. The library is located at 124 North Street, and has hours six days a week, closed Sundays.
