Blanche Esther (Brooks) Garrett, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, will celebrate her 91st birthday on Nov. 26.

Born in Nesquehoning in 1920, Blanche has also resided in Jim Thorpe; Lansford; Lake Harmony; Stratford, N.J.; and Summit Hill.

After graduating from Summit Hill High School in 1938, Blanche attended tech school in Jim Thorpe and trained to be a hair dresser.

She was married to Edward M. Jones for 40 years prior to his death in 1977, and to Russell Warren Garrett for two years prior to his death in 1998.

She is very proud of her large family which includes seven children, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Blanche worked as a sales clerk in the Windsor Department Store in Lehighton and as a shoe manager in Brights Department Store, also in Lehighton.

Blanche was a member of the bowling club and women's church auxiliary in Summit Hill. She was the manager of her own chorus, for which she also played piano.

She was also a member of the fire company auxiliary in Jim Thorpe. Her hobbies include reading, shopping, quilting, cooking and baking.
