Coaldale man, granted new trial, instead enters guilty plea

Karl A. Otto, 78, of 247 E. Moser Ave., Coaldale, who was found guilty in March 2009 of of charges of having involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with person under 16, indecent assault and indecent exposure, which was granted a new trial by President Judge William E. Baldwin because of "inefficient assistance of his counsel at the trial." However, Otto has now entered a guilty plea to two counts of indecent assault and one count of endangering welfare of childlren.

The plea was entered before Judge John E. Domalakes in Schuylkill County court who deferred sentencing to a later date and ordered the defendant to submit to an evaluation through the state's sexual offenders assessment board. The sentence is delayed pending the evaluation. The charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent exposure were nol prossed.Otto was released on bail on his own recognizance and during the period he is out on bail must have no contact with the victim or the victim's family or any other minor child. Coaldale Police Chief Timothy Delaney is the prosecuting officer.
