Lehighton receives recycling grant

State Senator John Yudichak announced today that a $2,878 state grant was awarded to Lehighton Borough. The grant was awarded to boost recycling efforts and help the local economy.

"This is an economic and environmental plus for the community," Yudichak said. "Because of local recycling efforts, totaling 263.1 tons in 2008, this community will receive funds to help boost its recycling efforts."The funds were awarded under the state Department of Environmental Protection's Recycling Performance Grant Program. This grant is in addition to the funds PA DEP allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.Yudichak added that the Recycling Performance Grant Program makes it possible for local governments to maximize their collection of recyclables, creating the opportunity for new businesses to collect, process and utilize these materials
