Man charged after confrontation

A Cumberland County man was arrested following a confrontation with a hunter on property he owns in Schuylkill County that included a gun-pointing incident and the shooting of a tire on a vehicle. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred about 6 a.m. on Nov. 28 along a dirt eastment near 49 Kushwa Road in Hubley Township.

Troopers said Frank J. Krammes, 44, of Sacramento, Schuylkill County, drove to the area and was attempting to hunt on the property stated above. He was confronted by Andrew D. Smeltz, 34, of Summerdale, who told Krammes he was trespassing.Both engatged in a confrontation, troopers said, which resulted in Smeltz allegedly pointing a handgun at Krammes and shooting the front tire on his vehicle. Krammes was then escorted off the proeprty.Smeltz was later taken into custody and charged with aggravated and simple assault and other criminal counts. He was arraigned before District Judge Carol Pankake, of Tremont, and released after he posted 10 percent of $35,000 bail.
