Tamaqua woman turns 99 years old

Betty Springer, Tamaqua, celebrated her 99th birthday Oct. 8 with friends and family at the Restaurant at the Station in Tamaqua.

She was born and raised in her Cottage Avenue home on Oct. 8, 1912. She was married to William Springer, who passed away in February of 2007. They had three children, a daughter, Alice Roberts from Fayetteville, and two sons, Dr. Daniel W. Springer from Ephrata and Charles D. Springer from Tamaqua.She is well known for her active membership at the First Presbyterian Church in Tamaqua and for over 30 years, working at Bill Moser's news stand in Tamaqua.Betty has seven grandchildren: Susan Rigg, David Springer, Steve Springer, Jeffrey Springer, Kathryn Estrada, Donald Roberts and Dr. James Roberts. She also has 10 great-grandchildren.Her hobbies consist of puzzle books, reading the paper, listening to music and enjoying time with family.
