DUI checkpoint

The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program has released the results from a sobriety checkpoint held Aug. 26 in Coaldale.

A total of 269 vehicles were contacted with 16 detained. Three operators were tested for possible intoxication, with one adult arrested. Officers also issued 10 traffic citations and issued 30 warnings. Four law enforcement departments were represented by 10 officers.Additional checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted through Sept. 5 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125,25, 924, and 54. Operations will be coordinated with adjoining counties in conjunction with the Nationwide DUI, Border to Border, Enforcement Program, which began on Aug. 19.The checkpoints and patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic safety Administration (NHTSA).The North Central Highway Safety Network reminds travelers to dial 9-1-1 if they suspect a drunk driver.
