Slippery Salamanders are top 'Explorers'

The Slippery Salamanders from Weatherly Elementary School took the first place prize during the 2010 fourth and fifth grade (Explorers division) Envirothon, held at the Carbon County Environmental Education Center in Summit Hill on Tuesday. The team scored 448. Members of the Slippery Salamanders are front, sitting on rock, from left, Dana Weiss and Keith Gunderman. On rock, second row, Christopher MacNeal, Molly Isom, and Catherine Matyas. With them are, standing from left, Scott Dudley, Lions Club first vice district governor elect; Judy Dudley, Lions Club past district governor; Ed Dudley, Lions Club past district governor; the students; Susan Gallagher, CCEEC chief naturalist; Linda Benner, Lions Club Region 2 chairperson; and Dana Kudlick, Weatherly Elementary teacher and team advisor. The Envirothon events are sponsored by area Lions clubs. Other teams that placed are: Jupiter of Weatherly Elementary School, second; Daring Deer of Panther Valley Elementary School, third; and Rockin' Robins of L.B. Morris Elementary School, fourth.
