Schuylkill man facing DUI count

A Schuylkill County man is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) after he allegedly drove a vehicle after inhaling a can of compressed air, commonly used for dusting off computer keyboards.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said James Marconis Jr., 22, of Pottsville, was observed inhaling a can of "air duster" in a parking lot of the Fairlane Village Mall in East Norwegian Township, about 2:41 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. Troopers said the can contains difluoroethane, which when inhaled, gives a person a small and short-lived high from oxygen deprivation.Troopers said Marconis then drove to his home where he was once again observed inhaling another can while in his vehicle.Marconis was taken into custody and transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center South Jackson St., Pottsville, where he submitted to a blood test.Charges of DUI and sale or illegal use of certain solvents and noxious substances are pending the test results.
