Simon Charles Bandzi Jr. places 70 flags around his Walnutport house for Memorial Day. He said they are to honor his dad, Simon Charles Bandzi Sr. and his grandfather Joseph who fought in Checkoslovakia to aid the allies during World War I. Bandzi Jr. was in Vietnam. His brother Steven was a Marine in Grenada. His father has his World War II uniform and will be taking it to a D-Day Remembrance Outing in Nazareth on June 6. The family is invited as guests. Anyone who participated in D-Day and their family will have their dinner paid. Simon Jr. said Simon Sr. was a medic who also served in the Battle of the Bulge. He received a medal made of zinc from New Jersey Zinc Co., Palmerton, which says "Awarded to men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States of America in World War II from the Palmerton Pa. District at the welcome home celebration, Aug. 14, 1946."
