It wasn't the best of shooting nights for either Lehighton or Marian.

While the Indians shot a measly 18-percent (7-for-40) from the floor, the Fillies didn't shoot that much better as they hit only 21 of their 64 shots in the non-conference showdown.When it came down to earning what counted most though a victory, Marian had no trouble posting a decisive 53-27 win to remain unbeaten on the season."We played pretty hard all night, but not necessarily really well or really efficient," Marian coach Paul Brutto said. "We just have to clean up our offense. We had a lot of mental and physical breakdowns. But, it's early. Hopefully, by the New Year, we can iron those things out."While Lehighton's offense relied solely on a 15-point performance by Jordyn Homyak, Marian was able to get its points thanks to Kaysi McLaughlin, Danielle Tristani and Gillian Ferko, who all hit double figures.Despite her team's cold shooting night, Ferko said the Fillies can rely on the fact that several players have the ability to lead the offense."On any given night, anybody can score," Ferko said. "Anybody can make a shot and that's really important because a defense can't focus just on one person during the game."In fact, it was five different Fillies who contributed to a 10-0 run to build a quick lead that turned out to be a 15-6 advantage after one quarter. Marian hit four of its first six shots to start the game for its best shooting stretch of the night.While Lehighton was able to pull within seven with 1:28 left in the first quarter, and were still within 11 with 2:10 left in the half, that was as close as the Indians would get."We missed a lot of open looks," Indians coach Tony Thomas said. "We were missing a lot of easy ones. Yes, we may be losing, but we're also learning a new system, and it just takes time. I just got these girls back from field hockey, so not to make excuses for them, but we missed a lot of open looks."We did well at the free throw line (12-for-16). But, we still turned the ball over 22 times and when you can't take care of the basketball, we can't win games."After watching McLaughlin and Tristani both hit for 11 points, and Ferko add 10 points, Brutto was happy his team found a way to solve the problem with scoring."You have to have three in doubles to beat good teams unless you have somebody go crazy on a particular night," Brutto said. "So, any time we get three players in doubles, I think you can be competitive with anybody. I like that balance. It has been different people coming through for us so far."I thought we also did a nice job on Homyak. She's just a great athlete, a great player.
