Christmas sports wish list

By ED HEDES

Well, well, well ...Another year has come and gone and Good Ol' Santa has been given quite a list for those who have been nice throughout THE TIMES NEWS office and the local sports scene. He's also been given a couple of other names that have been added to the list for certain reasons. It seems that the list continues to grow each year so Santa has to make sure his reindeer and elves are well rested since there are a couple of stops on this year's delivery route that weren't on it last year.So without further ado, we're going to go through the list, in no particular order. If for some reason you didn't make it, don't worry. It could be that you were accidently omitted or your present was too big to make the sleigh and might have to wait until next year.BOB MITCHELL - A healthy and happy retirement from the football sidelines.BRIAN CARROLL - A shot at a league and district title and more for his Jim Thorpe boys basketball team.TY TKACH - A healthy and speedy recovery from another foot surgery so he can play a full season next fall for the Pitt Panthers.SAM BONNER - Continued growth of the Tamaqua Blue Raider football program that he took over a few years back and has made life up on "Stadium Hill" a lot better.DON DELICH - A super year for his Palmerton girls basketball team that is loaded with talented underclassmen.PAT CRAMPSIE - Some quality wins for his Panther Valley boys basketball team.NADIA GAURONSKY - A shooter that was as good as she was so she can build the Pleasant Valley girls basketball program into an MVC power again.STAN DAKOSTY, PAUL McARDLE AND MARK ROSENBERGER - A return to the post-season for the Marian, Palmerton and Jim Thorpe football teams.ROBBIE FREY - Good luck with his shoulder rehab so he could return more kickoffs for touchdowns and get some offensive playing time for the UConn Huskies next fall.MICHAEL O'BRIEN - A win for the Lehighton boys basketball team.CHRIS STITZEL - A shot at a boys cross country championship next season for his Northwestern Lehigh runners, to follow up the gold medal performance of Lindsay Kerr this past fall.PAUL BRUTTO - Patience with his Marian Fillies that seem to be going through a growing and learning stage this early in the season.SHAWN HINDY - A chance for bigger and better challenges in the coaching field now that he's led the Lehighton field hockey team to a state championship.JOE TOUT - A group of dedicated Northern Lehigh linemen in the weight room this off-season to replace the graduating seniors so Cody Remaley can rush for over 1,000 yards again next season.MATT FALCONE - A couple of good hits on special teams when the Temple Owls take on UCLA in the Eagle Bank Bowl in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.TODD HERZOG - Another trip to Hershey by some of his Northern Lehigh wrestlers and a couple of state medalists.COREY CINICOLA - A football scholarship to show off his talent at the next level like he did during his career at Jim Thorpe.EMMETT McCALL - Tennis lessons so he'll be able to compete with his three daughters this summer, who were members of the Northampton High girls team this fall.JASON ZIMMERMAN - Enough money in the Northwestern Lehigh School District budget so they don't put the axe to any middle school sports programs.JAY DAUBERT - A chance to watch his Blue Raider boys basketball team flex its muscles and score some more wins this year than it did last year.FRANK DAMIAN - A bus full of players to replace a lot of good ones who are graduating from his Panther Valley football team.ROD HECKMAN - Plenty of good Flyers tickets that should be easy to find after the demise of his hockey team.DAVE OERTNER - A shot at the Colonial League and District 11 title for his Northern Lehigh girls basketball team.BOB FORD - Another chance to celebrate a first place winning photo in either the Keystone or any other photo contest he enters his one of a kind masterpieces in.MIKE HAINES, LOU RUSNOCK, SCOTT PAGEL, TONY CHOY, BARRY HAUPT, TOM SCHAEFFER, RUSS KRESGE, LEN ALABOVITZ, NEIL CHRISTMAN, SCOTT WENTZ, RANDY SMITH, WAYNE DEWALT, BUPPER STROUP, FRED LESHER, BRIAN MINNICH, JEFF REINHARD, JOHN WILLIAMS, ED KISS, JAIME MENDES, GARY BRUCH, THAD KOSCIOLEK, RICH OERTNER, RODNEY STROHL, JACK McGEEHAN, BOB PARFITT, JOHN LEFFLER AND GEOFF KELOWITZ - More birdies than pars on the links this coming year.Merry Christmas to all and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
