Three Tamaqua area property owners get higher assessments

Taxes for 2014 on three additional properties in the Tamaqua area were increased by the Schuylkill County Assessment Appeals Board after hearings held in the courthouse in Pottsville.

This brings the total to 71 properties in the Tamaqua Area School District to be increased on appeals filed by the school district and increases the assessed valuation of the properties in the district by $3.1 million.The property of Joseph and Jane Featro, 2002 Valley Road, Walker Township, the market value was increased from $135,673 to $223,200 and assessment from $67,820 to $111,600, an increase of $43,780 in assessment.Jay and Pauline Heisler, 10 Pebble Lane, Walker Township, on property at 965 Catawissa Road, Walker Township,the market value was increased from $137,328 to $113,202 and assessment from $68,665 to $111,600., an increase of $42,935 in assessment.Jason Hollenbach, 367 Archery Club Road, New Ringgold, market value increased from $116,150 to $158,722 and assessment from $58,075 to $79,360, an increase of $21,285 in assessment.Richard Trexler won his appeal on the property at 223 Race Street, Tamaqua, as the board decreased the market value from $27,800 to $14,876 and the assessment from $13,900 to $7,440, a decrease of $6,460 in assessment.Minersville Area School District had the market values and assessments increased on 27 properties in its district which added $925,325 to is total assessment for the district. The largest windfall came from the property of HMMK, LLC, of Skippack, on 400 acres of land which is located on the east side of State Route 25 on Sherman Mountain in Foster Township. The board increased the market value from $71,490 to $992,000 and the assessment from $35,745 to $496,000, an increase of $460,258 in assessment. It also increased the assessment on the property owned by Winnie Coal Company, LLC, of Orwigsburg on 31.83 acres of coal land in Cass Township. The market value was increased from $3,180 to $69,440 and assessment from $1,590 to $34,720, an increase of $33,130 in assessment.Kenneth and Beverly Rebert, Barnesville, sought a reduction in the market value and assessment on its home and two tracts of land but the board ruled no change. Their home at 401 Church Street remains on the assessment books at a $126,755 value and is assessed at $63,380 and a tract of land located at 219 Locust Valley remains at a market value of $1,760 and assessed at $800 and a second tract containing 11.8 acres purchased to control hunting on the land remains assessed at market value of $1,200 and assessed at $600.
