Jim Thorpe Halloween parade largest ever

Under partly cloudy skies with a winter chill in the air, the streets of Jim Thorpe filled with ghouls, ghost, and goblins as the 2013 Jim Thorpe Halloween parade got under way from the Jim Thorpe Area High School Sunday afternoon.

The parade, which was sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Lions Club, worked its way down through the streets of the east side of the town for about a mile concluding at Second and Center streets where it disbanded.At the conclusion of the parade, buses shuttled participants back to Memorial Park where there were awards and refreshments for everyone participating.The grand marshal for this year's parade was Francis O'Donnell, who was accompanied by his wife Joanne.The judges were Dr. Clem McGinley, John Bilsak and Jim Thorpe Area High School Principal Tom Lesisko. The parade announcer was state Rep. Doyle Heffley.Taking the award of first place in floats was Cub Pack 138, with the Jim Thorpe National Bank float taking second place.In groups, Dance Explosion won first place, while Girl Scout Troop 30138 received second place.Lions Club coordinator Kathy Schwartz noted that this was the largest Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade ever.
