Democratic Club aids food bank

The Lansford Democratic Club members recently participated in a nonperishable food roundup, collecting food items to assist the Shepherd House of Lansford, a food pantry that aids the needy in the community. The pantry, located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 E. Abbott St., helps provide food commodities to families that meet the income-based eligibility guidelines set by the government. Betty Pearson, third from left, representative of the pantry, and Jennifer Kusse, third from right, assistant representative, accept the items from the club members, including, from left, Chris Ondrus, president; Donna Valent, secretary; Lisa Stefanick, treasurer; and Terry McCall, vice president. The pantry is open on the third Monday of each month from 9:30-11 a.m. It currently serves about 115 families per month. Persons interested in determining their eligibility to receive assistance can contact Pearson at (570) 645-3416.
