Early last night, a meteorologist on an area television station predicted about an inch of snow for Carbon County. That was down from about four inches a morning meteorologist had earlier predicted in the day good news for morning commuters. Right?

It turns out the morning weather forecaster was more accurate.More than three inches of snow fell throughout the region overnight, canceling schools and making some morning commutes a little scary.The National Weather Service says five inches fell in Albrightsville, 4 1/2 inches of snow fell in Summit Hill, and three inches was the measurement in Palmerton.Every school district in Carbon County canceled classes today, as did Pleasant Valley School District and Marian Catholic High School in Hometown.Tamaqua, Northern Lehigh, and Northwestern all had two-hour delays.The snow changed to freezing rain and rain by 4 a.m. For the earliest commuters, the surfaces became slick.At about 7 a.m., PennDOT reduced the speed limit on interstates 80 and 81 to 45 miles per hour, but then returned them to their normal limits an hour later.There were several accidents reported due to the weather.An accident with an injury happened on Route 54 at the entrance to Lake Drive shortly after 6 a.m.After that, an accident was reported on Route 309 in West Penn Township.There was a car reported off the road and in a ditch along Route 209 in Lansford.There's no accumulating snow in the forecast for the next week, but temperatures are expected to fall. Snow showers are predicted for Monday and Tuesday.
