Blue Mountain Health System will offer a series of training classes on Diabetes Self-Management from 1-3:30 p.m. on four Tuesdays: Sept. 24, Oct. 1, 8 and 15 in the third-floor conference room at the Palmerton Hospital campus, 135 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

The course will be facilitated by certified diabetes educator, Susan Generose, RD, CDE, LDN. It will cover meal planning: how to count carbohydrates and plan healthy meals; exercise tips to keep active and find time to workout; how to check your blood sugar, oral medications and insulin; ways to prevent neuropathy, eye disease, kidney problems and foot problems; stress and coping; and resources for people with diabetes.Medicare Part B covers 10 hours of initial group classes for a beneficiary who has been diagnosed with diabetes and/or who has not had formal training in the past.
