Police chasing an elusive Coaldale resident accused of burglary had to clamber through a second-story window, but they got their man.

Paul David Weirich, 25, of 105 Miner St., had been evading capture for a week, said Coaldale police Chief Timothy Delaney.Finally, he was spotted. Coaldale Officers Scott Cramer and Todd Weiss, along with police from Tamaqua and Lansford, gave chase."He's been running from us for the past week. They had to go through a second-floor window at 109 W. Miner St., his father's house, but they got him," Delaney said.Weirich is currently lodged in Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, under $15,000 straight cash bail.According to court documents, Coaldale police Officer Joseph Krebs received a phone call while on duty at 3:18 p.m. April 26 from a Kayla Leibowitz, who told him that her roommate was "in a situation and is afraid to report it to police."Krebs interviewed the roommate, Becca Thomson, who told police that she used to date Weirich, and suspected him of breaking into his neighbor's house to steal copper.Krebs contacted Weirich, who came to the police station. After reading Weirich his Miranda rights, Krebs interviewed him. The officer was skeptical when Weirich denied any involvement in local burglaries.Two days later, Krebs got a call from Thomson. She told him she was in Weirich's father's house, and saw things she believed were stolen. Krebs went to the house, and spoke with Weirich's father. The man signed a consent-to-search agreement.With help from Lansford police, Krebs searched the house, discovering several items of what they believe to be stolen property: 17 DVD's, three Wii games, two Wii accessory parts, and copper wire. They bagged the items as evidence and took them back to the police station.Hours later, Weirich agreed to return to the police station to talk about the situation. Krebs again gave him his Miranda warnings, and this time, Weirich admitted to the thefts. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking, lying to authorities and criminal mischief.
