McAdoo fire company rescues two bear cubs

Answering a request by the state Game Commission last Friday, McAdoo Fire Company's ladder truck responded to the village of Tresckow, Banks Township, for a report of two small bears stuck in a tree in the backyard of a residence.

An officer with the Game Commission shot one small bear with a tranquilizer dart and was able to safely remove the bear. The second bear made it difficult for rescuers as he went higher up the tree before it too was shot by a dart while the fire company's ladder was positioned nearby.Both bears were not injured. McAdoo firefighter Jamie Mahon caught one bear as it fell and the second was also brought down safely.The whereabouts of the mother bear was unknown. The cubs were tagged and released back into the wild.Assisting PA Game Commission officers were McAdoo firefighters John McNeal, Assist Chief Robert Leshko and Mike Bowman.
