The occupants of this van escaped serious injury Sunday morning after losing control of the vehicle, sending it into a stream along SR902 in Mahoning Township. It is believed the van struck a patch of black ice while traveling south, crossing the roadway, and leaving the east berm, where it slid into the stream. The occupants managed to climb out of the vehicle, but had to enter the frigid waters, with temperatures being just above 20 degrees. Responding to the accident were the Mahoning Valley Fire Company and Mahoning Valley Ambulance. The scene of the crash is near the intersection with Strauss Valley Road. Mahoning Township police are investigating the incident.
