New computers for Schuylkill prothonotary office

The Schuylkill prothonotary’s office is getting new computers.

Commissioners approved the request from Prothonotary Bridget McGowan Miller for 15 Dell computers. The $23,056.89 cost includes all necessary equipment and licenses paid from the automation fund, an account funded through state required court fees paid for all documents filed on the prothonotary’s office. Miller said the computers will likely be ordered next week to replace the desktops that are nine years old. She said the county management information systems will order them.

Upgrading the computers is the latest project the office has undertaken. Earlier this month, commissioners voted to convert all existing files - more than 2 million - from TIF to PDA/PDF format.

The cost for the conversion is also paid from the automation fund. Estimated time for completion is six to eight months. An in-house digital document online service will then be done, Miller said, also paid from the fund.

Documents that are public knowledge will be accessible online. Sealed cases will not.
