Two men admitted entering a Carbon County home and threatening the two occupants with a piece of wood, stealing money and their vehicle. The admissions came in the form of guilty pleas entered in the county court on Thursday. The two were among several defendants in pending cases to enter pleas before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II

Penn Forest incidentJarod Brown, 17, of Harrisburg, and Curtis Anthony Young, 17, of Philadelphia, each entered pleas to one count each of robbery, theft and escape, all felonies.The two were arrested by state police at Lehighton for an incident in Penn Forest Township. A third suspect arrested in the incident is Wellington Mayo, 15, of Reading. Charges against him are pending.The trio were charged as adults because they utilized a deadly weapon during the commission of a robbery. The three were placed by various courts to the Youth Services Agency Camp Adams, in Penn Forest Township, and left the facility during the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. They forcibly entered the residence of Dennis and Joyce Mikolawski, along Behrens Road in the township. They threatened to couple with a large piece of wood. They took cash from them and then stole their vehicle.They were later spotted by Kidder Township police along SR903. Township police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver sped away. A chase began and continued onto Interstate 80 eastbound at high rates of speed. The vehicle was stopped in the Tannersville area when stop sticks were used.Nanovic accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing to a later date and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence (PSI) report.Other pleasOther defendants entering guilty pleas included the following:Edward Barrett Sr., 48, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to one count of retail theft, as a felony three. He was arrested by Mahoning Township police for an incident at the Walmart store. He stole $179.14 worth of merchandise. Because this was his third offense, the charge and any future convictions for retail theft will be felonies and carry stiffer sentences, Nanovic told the defendant.Nanovic noted that Barrett spent 16 months in a state prison on a prior retail theft conviction, but it dated back to 1993.Barrett told Nanovic he has mental health issues and is currently on medication for it.Nanovic sentenced him to serve nine to 18 months in the county prison followed by two years of probation after his prison term ends. He must also supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee.While waiting to plea the sheriff's department served a warrant on Barrett issued to the domestic relations department for failure to pay support for a child. He was taken into custody on the warrant and the jail term began immediately, Nanovic ruled.Donald A. Reese, 40, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested on Jan. 20 along in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .29BAC.Nanovic sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use. On a summary motor vehicle code violation he was fined $25 and costs.He begins the jail term on June 30 at 10 a.m. It is his second offense, Nanovic noted.Jessica Nicole Errickson, 25, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of criminal conspiracy-retail theft. She was arrested on Aug. 20, 2010, at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township.Nanovic placed her on probation for 18 months and ordered she pay a fine of $500.Anthony John Naimon III, 42, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Feb. 13 along W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe, after being involved in an accident. Given a test, the result was .16BAC.Nanovic deferred sentencing to give Naimon a chance to apply for placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP), or house arrest.Richard M. Dotter, 40, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Sept. 4, 2010, along Interchange Road (SR209), in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result was .20BAC. At the time of the stop Dotter had a arrest warrant issued for him out of Kidder Township, it was noted.Nanovic sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render three hours of community service per month while on parole. He was given credit for one day spent in jail on the charge.He will serve the jail term on consecutive weekends beginning July 2 at 5 p.m.Cyrena L. Hoffort, 47, of Coplay, pleaded to one count each of DUI and recklessly endangering. She was arrested on Nov. 25, 2010, along SR248 in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result was .11BAC. At the stop she had her two children in the vehicle which led to the endangering count.Nanovic placed her on probation for six months as a first time offender and ordered she pay a fine of $300 and zero tolerance on D&A use. On the endangering charge she was placed on probation for six months, concurrent to the DUI count.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
