Gilbert family grateful following scary ordeal

Lila Mae Kleintop of Gilbert was on her sunporch Sunday morning, watching the maple tree in the back yard just waiting for it to be uprooted when she heard a crash from the front yard.

She called out to her husband, Alton, "What was that?" and they both hurried to the front door.Their large old locust tree had been uprooted and had crashed on top of their home's roof and some of its branches blocking the front porch. It covered their garage doors so they were unable to get their car out. It fell on the power line to the house but amazingly, they did not lose power."It was very scary," says Lila Mae, adding that they're grateful they weren't hurt.

LINDA KOEHLER/TIMES NEWS This tree was uprooted from the high winds of Irene and it fell on the roof of Lila Mae and Alton Kleintop's home in Gilbert.
