SALISBURY TOWNSHIP – Palmerton had been knocking on the door in its last few games. The Lady Bombers finally broke through Monday night, beating Salisbury 2-0 for their first win of the season.
"We lost two games by one goal, one in overtime," said Palmerton head coach Barry Hahn. "We were in every game and just came up short. Today it came together."
The game was stopped because of lightning 16 minutes into the second half and was eventually called, making it official because it was after halftime.
Palmerton was the more aggressive team from the beginning, forcing three corners in the first 10 minutes of play and six in the first half. The Bombers were peppering all league keeper Lauren Fischer with shots and finally got one past her with 3:10 left in the first half.
Fischer came far out of the goal to challenge a Palmerton shot. She knocked the ball away, but it found Casey Rinfret, who put it in the back of the net before Fischer could recover.
The Bombers added their second goal with 45 seconds left in the first half when Katie Rinfret centered a ball to Kylee Turko, who slammed the shot into the left corner of the net for a two-goal lead..
"I'm glad we finally got our win," said Casey Rinfret. "We've been working hard at practices. I think we played really good tonight. We played well in a few other games. We didn't let down this game. We came together."
