The Bethany Weslyn Church (BWC) in Cherryville recently held their Fourth Annual Bethany Sportsmen's Trout Fishing Derby at the Pekurny Pond located on Lizard Creek Road (SR-895) in Lehighton. The community derby was for both children and adults.

More than 100 children and adults registered for the event. Church members Chris and Tracy Pekurny donate their large pond and property every year for the event. A large canopy called the "Kids Zone" was also erected for various types of children's activities.

Many door prizes and contest prizes were given out. Clowns, face painting, ball toss, duck race, balloons, fishing games, crafts, and many other children's activities were also available to the public. Members of the Bethany Weslyn Church stressed their great appreciations for the over 50 prize and fish sponsors of their annual event, as well as the many church and community volunteers that showed to help. The church also pointed out the great appreciation of the Pekurny family for opening their pond every year.
