tneditor@tnonline.comWalker Township supervisors voted to put the 2010 road project out for bid.This year, they hope to seal coat five miles of Valley Road, from the intersection of Valley Road and Wildcat Road all the way to the Blythe Township line. Supervisors also gave their approval for the installation of a crossing arm and flashing lights at the railroad crossing on Wildcat Road.The Reading Blue Mountain Railroad has agreed to pay for 100 percent of the cost of the project.Supervisors received information about the Cold Run Bridge project. Township secretary Suzanne Borzak spoke with the township's engineer from Alfred Benesch and Company, who told her that there are four areas of repair needed on the bridge: upgrades to the guardrails, replace missing stones in the wing walls, scouring, and repointing.The township currently has $20,000 in grant money to repair the bridge and supervisors hope to be able to complete at least 2 or 3 of the projects.Supervisors approved a bid from Ehrlich for $635 for weed spraying around guard rails and the tennis and basketball courts in the township.They voted to advertise for a part time CDL driver for the summer months.Now that the basketball court installation and tennis court resurfacing are completed, several people noted that the facility is getting a lot of use. Concerns were raised about other activities, like skateboarding, being done on the new surfaces.Supervisors agreed to post the area as tennis and basketball only. Park hour will be from 8 a.m. until dusk. Supervisors also agreed to replace the volleyball net.Supervisors also discussed creating a township website, where people could go to submit questions to the township, download various forms to apply for permits, and other information.
