POTTSVILLE - There is no doubt the numbers were stacked in Blue Mountain's favor at the Schuylkill League track and field dual meet championship.

The Division I champion Eagles showcased their superior depth at every turn, and Division II titlist Marian could not match it.

Blue Mountain captured 16 of 18 events to repeat as Schuylkill overall champion, cruising to a 122-28 victory Wednesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The rematch of last year's title tilt was once again lopsided, as four Eagles were multiple individual event winners.

Kyle Laughlin was a triple winner, leaping to wins in the long, triple and high jumps, while Matt Maloney (100, 200 meters), Jordan Hoffman (110 and 300 meter hurdles) and Tyler Rolshausen (discus, javelin) had two wins apiece.

"Track is a numbers game," said Blue Mountain coach Al Yackenchick, whose team finished at 8-1, with its lone loss a non-league setback to Exeter. "I feel bad for Marian. We just have the numbers, and it's a major advantage for us.

"I'm proud of our kids. They came in here and took this meet serious. We lost 21 seniors from last year, and we had a lot of holes to fill, but our kids stepped up."

Knowing the odds were against the Colts (6-2), first year Marian head coach John Boyle hoped to use the meet as an opportunity to push his athletes toward personal best times.

The Colts did get a first from Corey Rutch in the shot put (39-5), as well as from the 1,600 relay of John Julian, Paul Martin, Justin Huegel and Jamie Ramer (3:51). Martin, Bobby Kelly, Chris Barletta and Justin Huegel each placed in multiple events.

"Paul Martin ran a 23 flat in the 200 and is starting to look real strong. Corey's coming along in the shot, and the finish by the 4x400 team was a good way for us to end it," said Boyle.

This is reportedly the final year for the Division I-II championship meet. Blue Mountain certainly left its mark.
