In observance of Tuesday's "Read Across America Day", a reading initiative created by the National Education Association, the Tamaqua Lions Club spent time reading and talking to kindergarten students and classes at the Tamaqua Elementary School and St Jerome Elementary School.

Since Tuesday marked Dr Seuss' 106th birthday, Lions Club members energetically read Dr Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham" to all the kindergarten students. Some classes made and wore Dr Seuss paper hats to celebrate his birthday.The Lions also talked a lot about family volunteerism and ways the students can help their family and community. Coloring books and stuffed animals were also given out to all the kindergarten students by Tamaqua Lions Club. These Lions Club members will also spend today, Thursday, and Friday of this week reading and talking to kindergarteners at the Tamaqua Elementary School, Tamaqua West Penn Elementary School, and Rush Elementary School. Tamaqua Lions Club member Sue Dolan organized the readings.
