Memorial Hall on East 10th street in Jim Thorpe was the setting last Saturday evening for the 2nd annual Policeman's Ball which was hosted by the Jim Thorpe Police Department.
Serving for the second year as the Chairman of the Policeman's Ball Committee and the Master of Ceremonies, Jeremy Melber called the ball a great and fun event and said that everyone he talked to had a great time.
More important than just being a fun event was the fact that all of the proceeds from the Ball will benefit the FOP Carbon Lodge 13 Fallen Officers Fund.
During the event, two different presentations were made to the Jim Thorpe Police Department for the purchase of Taser guns for the department.
With Chief Joseph Schatz accepting for the department, a check for $800 was presented for the purchase of a Taser gun by the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Alec Campbell, Mauch Chunk Division I, Carbon County and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee.
Chief Schatz also accepted another check for $800 which was presented by the Behan family and Molly Maguires Pub & Steakhouse to purchase a second Taser gun.
Making that presentation were Behan family members Noel, Bernadette, Darren, and Jenn Behan.
During the event, a happy retirement was wished to both former Chief Barry Andrew and former Mayor Ronald Confer.
Policeman's Ball Committee Chairman Jeremy Melber thanked the Committee, community, and sponsors for all of their support in making the event a success.
