Rush Township police have charged a Tamaqua woman with retail theft after she allegedly switched price tags at the Hometown Commons Walmart.

Jessica L. Hill-Jones, 28, allegedly switched tags on merchandise valued at $49.99 at approximatley 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The former owner of a martial arts studio in Lehigh County has been arrested for indecent assault.

State police at Fogelsville said Shahrokh Mahrkar, former owner and instructor of Oxyfit Martial Arts Studio, located at 6480 Alburtis Rd., Macungie Township, was charged with indecent assault and related counts.

Troopers said a 15-year-old female reported she was sexually assaulted by Mahrkar over a period of time which started when she was 12 years old. Mahrkar was her instructor which led to the sexual contact, troopers allege.

A search of a Monroe County home resulted in the arrest of two individuals on drug charges.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said following a several month investigation officers executed a search warrant on Monday, Sept. 112, at 2534 Lakeside Drive, Tobyhanna, Coolbaugh Township. Police said the search resulted in evidence being seized which indicated illegal drug trafficking.

Lehighton police reported that bad check charges have been filed against two individuals for separate incidents in the borough.

Police said David Wetzell, 50, of 1945 Hickory Rd., Palmerton, was cited for issuing a bad check to Mallard Market on Aug. 1, in the amount of $84.74.

Constance Landis, 55, of 542 Mahoning St., Lehighton, was cited for issuing a bad check to the Lehighton Animal Hospital on June 1 in the amount of $180.

A Pottsville man is suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol in Rush Township on Saturday.

Police received several calls concerning a vehicle being operated in a reckless manner traveling on SR54 early that morning. At 6:27 a.m. the vehicle was located and stopped.

The driver was identified as Kyle Lechleitner, 25. Lechleitner exhibited several signs of intoxication and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for blood work.

Charges are pending test results.

Several Tamaqua area residents were cited following an incident in Lehighton. Borough police said the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Lehighton Middle School about 8:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. Lehighton and Tamaqua football teams were playing that night nearby.

Damages were termed heavy to a truck that crashed in Schuylkill County on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Raul Cruz, 57, of Emmaus, was operating a 2002 International truck westbound on Sweer Arrow Lake Road, in Wayne Township, about 11:30 a.m. and negotiating a left-hand curve. The right tires of the truck went off the road and onto the berm. It traveled 66 feet along the berm before re-entering the road.

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the theft of a large amount of cash during a burglary in Schuylkill County.

Troopers said the burglary occurred at the residence of Eleanor I. Gicking, 69, of 131 Main St., Seltzer, Norwegian Township. Unknown persons gained entry to the home through an unlocked door.

The criminals removed $10,000 in U.S. currency from a locked safe, troopers said. The incident occurred sometime between Sept. 5 and Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Tamaqua police have filed charges against a former Lehigh County man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

David Scott Reed, 24, whose last known address was 1017 Virginia St., Allentown, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors.

Reed was arrested after police received a complaint early Saturday evening from the teenage victim's mother.

A Schuylkill County teen has been charged with harassment following an incident at his residence.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Zachary Scott Himmelberger, 19, and Shawn Patrick Himmelberger, 30, both of Penn St., Port Clinton, were involved in a verbal argument on Wednesday, Sept. 14. During the argument Zachary allegedly threatened to get a gun and shoot Shawn, troopers said.
