Zachary Michael of Walnutport has been recognized on the dean's list at Norwich University, Northfield, Vt. for the spring 2013 semester.

Norwich University was founded in 1819 by Captain Alden Partridge of the U.S. Army and is the oldest private military college in the United States of America.

More than 1,800 Lehigh University students were awarded bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees on May 20 during the 145th spring commencement ceremonies at Goodman Stadium in Bethlehem.

Bill Nye, executive director of The Planetary Society, the world's largest space interest organization, and host of three television series, including Bill Nye the Science Guy, delivered the address. He challenged the Class of 2013 to nurture the "joy of discovery" and bring their talents, insights and education to bear in solving the world's most complex problems.

Ryan Price, son of Jody and Lisa Price of Coaldale, graduated from the University of Florida, earning a master of accounting degree. He is the grandson of Victor and Mary Pituch of Nesquehoning and the late Mary Pituch; Catherine Price and the late William Price of Coaldale.

The 2007 graduate of Marian Catholic High School earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Penn State University in 2011.

He has accepted a position as a tax consultant for Deloitte and Touche in Atlanta, Ga.

Army Pvt. Miranda L. Smith has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Amy Yusella has been named to the dean's list at DeSales University with a 3.34 GPA for the spring 2013 semester. She is a freshman psychology major and a 2012 graduate of Panther Valley High School.

She is the daughter of David and Debbie Yusella of Summit Hill and the granddaughter of Peter and MaryAnn Yusella of Summit Hill and Anthony and Gloria Sebelin of Bozeman, Mont.

Former TIMES NEWS intern Vinny Vella was part of a reporting team for The Denver Post that received the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting. The team, comprised of about a dozen reporters, plus all of the sectional editors and copy editors, covered the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., during the premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises."

Two Tamaqua Area Senior High School students participated in the Central Pennsylvania 2013 Hugh O'Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar at Shippensburg University. Kyle Weaver, son of Kevin and Betsy Weaver of West Penn Township, and Ben Miller, son of Bob and Helen Miller of New Ringgold, were selected to join the 250 high school representatives from throughout central and northeast Pennsylvania.

Kerri Hegarty, daughter of Sean and Marian Hegarty of Tamaqua, graduated cum laude from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, with a minor in educational psychology. She has accepted a position at Legacy High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gretchen Christine Moore, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Eric Moore, is graduating cum laude from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences. Gretchen is part of the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society and the Phi Sigma Phi Honor Society. She was a member of the Bloomsburg Dance Ensemble for 4 years. Gretchen will be entering the New York Institute of Technology in their Physician Assistant Program in the fall.

Gretchen was a 2009 graduate of the Jim Thorpe High School.
