Robert Franklin Guth IV, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Franklin Guth III, graduated from Northampton Community College in 2012. He recently received his funeral director's license, after a one-year internship in Muncy, Pa.

He is now working full-time and living in the Muncy area.

Army Pvt. Stephen A. Pickerin III has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Nakea Beers of Lehighton has been named to the dean's list at East Stroudsburg University for the spring semester of 2013. She attained a 3.6 GPA.

She is a senior majoring in elementary education and is president of the Contemporary Dancers at ESU.

Nakea is a 2010 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and is the daughter of Tracey Beers and Dwain Gable of Lehighton and Craig and Ruth Beers of Breinigsville. She is the granddaughter of Jeanette and Bob Strausberger of Palmerton and Barbara and Darrell Beers of Walnutport.

Kayla Stanek, daughter of Frank and Michelle Stanek of Summit Hill, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Kutztown University.

Kayla, a 2010 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, is a junior majoring in elementary education. Her grade point average for the semester was a 4.0.

At Kutztown, Kayla is a member of the dance team and the association of campus events.

She is the granddaughter of Julie McHugh and the late Thomas McHugh. She is also the granddaughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Stanek of Summit Hill.

Houm

Tamaqua native Amy Houm, M.D., has joined Geisinger Health System as a pediatrician at Geisinger Partners in Pediatrics, Hazleton.

Before joining Geisinger, Dr. Houm most recently served as a partner at Pediatric Practices of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Honesdale, since 2003. She also served as department chair of Pediatrics at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, from 2003 to 2006.

Kressa Dowling graduated magna cum laude from DeSales University on May 18. She received a bachelor of arts degree in elementary and special education.

The daughter of John and Patricia Dowling, she is a graduate of Marian Catholic High School. While attending DeSales she attained dean's list every semester.

She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society and Delta Delta Honor Society.

Brittany Holland of Jim Thorpe has attained dean's list status for the spring 2013 semester at Immaculata University. She is a member of the class of 2015.

To attain dean's list status, a student must achieve a grade-point average of 3.7 on a scale of 4.0.

Immaculata University, a Catholic, coeducational institution, is located 20 miles west of Philadelphia.

Haley Cope of Lehighton is participating in the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS) at Carnegie Mellon University. She is a student at Jim Thorpe Area High School and the daughter of Peggy Cope.

PGSS is a rigorous, five-week program which provides talented Pennsylvania rising seniors with enrichment experiences in science and math and encourages them to pursue careers in science and technology.
