Nicholaus German of Lansford graduated from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology on May 10.

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology is a two-year technical college that provides a free education to financially disadvantaged citizens of Pennsylvania, as well as serving tuition paying students.

Jerome Joseph Barron, son of Duane and Michelle Barron of Tamaqua, earned a doctor of osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine on June 1.

Commencement exercises were held at the Erie Insurance Arena in Erie.

This was LECOM's 18th commencement ceremony.

Following graduation, Jerome was promoted to the rank of captain in the United State Army. His residency will be completed at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C., his active duty station.

Brad Hosler, son of Deb and Bud Hosler of Tamaqua, graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology with an associate degree in automotive technology. Commencement exercises were held May 17.

Named to the dean's list for the spring semester with a 4.0 grade point average, Hosler graduated with high honors.

He plans to return to Penn Tech in the fall in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in automotive technology.

Samantha Lynn Guth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Guth III of Tamaqua, graduated with high honors from Drexel University in Philadelphia, earning a bachelor of science in psychology with a minor in criminal justice.

She is a 2011 graduate from Tamaqua Area High School.

Samantha is furthering her education at Fairleigh Dickinson University to obtain a master's degree in forensic psychology.

Eight students from Our Lady of the Angels Academy in Lansford were chosen as the Students of the Month for the month of May.

These students were selected for their display of the virtue of prayerfulness during May. The following are quotes from each student.

Kindergarten, Maggie Homyak: "I am respectful during prayer time."

First grade, Emily Stawiarski: "I learned my prayers when I was very little. I say my prayers every day. It is important to pray for everyone. I am happy to be chosen for the virtue of prayerfulness!"

Tamaqua Area High School senior Joshua Gordon has been selected as a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, which recognizes students for leadership, scholarship and community commitment.

Membership in NSHSS entitled Gordon to a variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions and more.

Formed in 2002, the NSHSS membership qualifies students for scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, publications and participation in programs offered by educational partners. The NSHSS has 950,000 members in 160 countries.

Kaitlyn Elizabeth Keich, daughter of John andJeanine Keich of Hometown, graduated summa cum laude on May 10 from Kutztown University with a bachelor of science degree in secondary education with a concentration in social studies.

Kaitlyn received the Outstanding Senior in History Award and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society that recognizes superior scholarship in students from the top 10 percent of the graduating class.
