Sarah Chidsey, a resident of New Tripoli, has been named to the fall 2014 dean's list at Texas State University.

To be named to the dean's list at Texas State, a student must earn a minimum grade-point average of 3.50 while carrying a class load of at least 12 semester hours.

Texas State is an emerging research university located in the Austin-San Antonio corridor on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. With an enrollment of 35,568 it is the largest campus in the Texas State University System.

Mary Jane Hanson, Ph.D., of Lehighton, is among the nine University of Scranton faculty members who have been awarded development intersession grants for January 2015.

Dr. Hanson, professor of nursing, received a grant to study "The Theory of Planned Behavior Applied to Cigarette Smoking Intention Among High School Students."

A faculty member at the university since 1996, she earned her bachelor's degree from Cedar Crest College, and her master's degree and doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.

Erin Fegley, a doctor of pharmacy major, was named to the dean's list at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy for fall 2014 with a GPA of 3.44.

Selection for the award is based on completing and passing all courses with no grade below a "C" and attaining a GPA no lower than a 3.4.

She is a 2012 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and the daughter of Donald and Ramona Fegley of New Ringgold.

She is the granddaughter of Don and Miriam Fegle of New Ringgold, and Ron and Dorothy Yeakel of Andreas.

Richelle Van Horn of Nesquehoning was named to the dean's list at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, attaining a 4.0 grade point average. She is majoring in pre-engineering.

She will be attending Penn State University, University Park to continue in the College of Engineering, majoring in chemical engineering.

A 2014 graduate of Panther Valley High School, Richelle is the daughter of Rick and Nancy Van Horn and granddaughter of Delfine Van Horn and the late Blanche Suda.

Army Pvt. Carol A. Mader-Seltner has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Shannon Skotek, daughter of Lisa Skotek of Kelayres, and Leo John Skotek of McAdoo, has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2014 semester.

She is a chemistry major with a concentration in industrial chemistry at the University of Downtown Houston in Houston, Texas.

Shannon is pursuing this degree in order to become a chemical engineer. She is a 2012 graduate of Marian Catholic High School.

Army Pvt. Sean M. McDermott has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

McDermott is the sonof Michael and Susan McDermott of Palmerton.

He is a 2014 graduate of Palmerton Area High School.
