Blood drives today

Cornerstone Community Church, 388 Polk Township Road, Kresgeville will hold an American Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m. today.

Blood and double red cells will be accepted.

In addition, on Thursday another American Red Cross blood drive will be held at the Pocono Medical Center West End Health Care Center on Burrus Road in Brodheadsville, from noon to 5 p.m.

Eldred supervisors

The Eldred Township supervisors will meet at 7:30 tonight.

Monroe Seniors

The Monroe County Seniors meeting at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will gather again on Friday and next Wednesday, beginning at 9 a.m. The lunch menu for those two day is pork with pineapple sauce and lemon pepper chicken, respectively.

Adult immunizations will be available on Aug. 12.

Breakfast served

McMichaels UMC will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday. There is no set cost; it is by donation.

Blood drive today

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive today from 1 to 6 p.m. Both blood and double cells can be donated.

The next local Red Cross drive will be at Cornerstone Community Church on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19.

Whole blood or blood platelets can be donated every Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. through Miller-Keystone Blood Center at Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Regional planning group meets

The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Regional Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building in Brodheadsville.

Filling shoeboxes

McMichaels UMC has begun collecting items for Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child.

In July and August girls' shirts, sizes small and medium in children's sizes, are being sought. Also needed are children's sunglasses, winter gloves and winter hats.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Altar & Rosary Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in McCawley Hall. The evening is anticipated to include meeting new members and hearing about future activities as well as getting updates on the group's lottery calendar.

Zion VBS

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville is holding a two-day event for Vacation Bible School Friday and Saturday. Each day begins at 9:30 a.m.

The outreach project for this time is school kits for Nepal.

There will be a wrap-up VBS program at the 10:30 worship service on Sunday.

The West End American Legion is slated to meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Post home in Gilbert.

The West End Home Association has its meeting on the calendar for 7:30 tonight.

Center closed

The Chestnuthill Senior center will be closed this Friday. The menu for next week Wednesday and Friday is Swiss steak on July 8 and grilled chicken Cobb salad on July 10.

President Julia Carter invites candidates for the election in November to come to share their vision for the West End and Monroe County.

Generous donation

The West End Fire Company of Brodheadsville thanks Girl Scout Troop 50394 Juniors for gathering stuffed animals for around the community as part of the Scouts Bronze award.

Approximately 1,500 were donated to the West End Fire Company to be distributed to children involved in accidents, fires or other types of emergencies.

A huge thank you to the Girl Scouts for completing this project, company member Ray Achey said.

Burn ban lifted

Eldred Township leadership has decided the burn ban can be lifted in light of the rainfall and wet conditions.

Residents may resume outdoor burning. However, since conditions can rapidly turn hot and dry at this time of year, residents should use caution if and when they do burn.

Victorian tea

Effort UMC's Methodist Church Women are hosting their Victorian tea from 2-4 p.m. Sunday. However, RSVPs are due today. Call the church at 570-629-1890 to make that reservation.
