Blood drive

There will be a blood drive at Getz Personal Care Home on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. located on Route 534, Kunkletown. Free 2011 Halloween T-shirts will be given to all presenting donors.

Anti bullying

Guest Speaker Jim Tkach will be coming to Pleasant Valley Intermediate School to talk to parents and students about the effects that mental disorders, bullying, and depression can have on students' well-being. The parent program will be on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the PVI cafeteria.

All parents are invited to attend.

Addresses sought

Operation: Touch of Home is asking for help in getting names and addresses of area men and women who are serving in Afghanistan and other hostile areas to be recipients of the organization's Spring 2012 shipment of essentials.

Persons having such information are asked to contact touchofhome@hotmail.com. One may also download a form from the group's website and mail it to the organization at P.O. Box 162, Brodheadsville, PA 18322.

Volunteers are also needed. Visit the website events page at www.operationtouchofhome.org for opportunities.

Polk PTO meeting

The monthly PTO meeting will be on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. in the library.

Parents of Polk students are welcome to attend.

Polk PTO winter dance

The Polk PTO will hold its winter dance from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 27. This year's theme is Sock Hop.

Crime watch

There will be a Polk Township crime watch meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m., at the Polk Township Municipal Building, located on Polk Township Rd., next to the township recycling center.

All Polk Township residents are encouraged to attend.

Dead deer pick-up

If residents find any dead deer along Chestnuthill Township roads, the number to call now is (570) 643-6100, the Waste Authority, instead of Vector Control's special deer pick-up line.

That entity has entered into an agreement with Monroe County to continue the services of picking up, removing and disposing of dead deer from Monroe County's roadways as of Jan. 13.

When calling, give the road and any intersecting roads - and township, of course- as to where the deer is located.

New pastor

St. Matthew's UCC will welcome it's new interim pastor, the Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope on Sunday, Jan. 22 at its 9 a.m. worship service. Immediately following the service, a welcome brunch reception will be held and everyone is invited to come and meet Pastor Suzanne and her family, husband Scott and two of their four children, Timothy and Taylor.

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet Thursday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Co.

Historical society

The Eldred Township Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the township municipal building.

They will have a "Share and Tell" program, inviting members and visitors to bring in something unusual, unique or meaningful to them to share with the group and talk about it.

Youth Famine

The Youth at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville held a 30-hour famine Jan. 7-8.

The funds they realized will be split, with 30 percent going to the Village of Hope Lazarus Project, 30 percent for Kids Against Hunger, and 40 percent to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.

Rotary speaker

The West End Rotary Club will welcome Sue Scarborough of the Stroudsburg YMCA as speaker on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the club's 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville.
