Conservation Club

The Nesquehoning Conservation Club will hold a meeting on April 7 at 6:30 p.m., at MapleShade Meadows.

Members are urged to attend this meeting as plans for the upcoming Children's Fishing Derby on May 8 will be finalized.

The 2010 dues can be paid at the meeting or to any club officer.

Don't forget to bring your Redner's Save A Tapes to the meeting.

A thank you goes out to all the volunteers who helped with the stream work this past Saturday.

The club is planning another event for Saturday, April 10.

Slatington Library News

The library will be celebrating National Library Week by holding a Book Fair at Barnes & Noble in the Lifestyle Center, Whitehall, on Friday, April 16, from 6-8:30 p.m. For more information, contact the library.

In recognition of National Library Week, the month of April will be a month of amnesty for all patrons with overdue books. No overdue fees will be charged. If you have a library book that is overdue, please return it, no questions asked. The book drop is always open.

Holy Week Services

The following local churches have announced their services for Holy Week.

St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. with the Rite of First Holy Communion and the stripping of the altar. Good Friday service at 2 p.m. There will be no service on Saturday and only one service, on Easter Sunday, that being at 10:30 a.m.

Class of 1969

The Tamaqua Class of 1969 will hold an initial planning session for its next reunion on April 29, at 7 p.m., at the Restaurant at the Station. All class members are welcome to attend.

Senior news

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met last week with 75 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Jean Machamer, who also offered several readings later in the meeting. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Always Near You."

PV Senior Center

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced its list of activities for April.

The Senior Game Practices will be held each Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Lehighton Senior Center. Chair exercises are held on Mondays and Fridays at the PV Senior Center starting at 10 a.m.

On April 1 wear something silly for April Fool's Day. April 2 is Good Friday and the center is closed.

Newspaper Drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, April 3. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. They also need brown grocery size paper bags.

PV Golden Agers

Forty-seven members attended the March 22 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers. The inspirational reading "Spring Time" was read of Irene Hudasky. Irish melodies were sung by the chorus conducted by Marian Shuler.

Seventeen ladies paraded around the hall to the tune of "Peter Cottontail" and "In Your Easter Bonnet." The guest of the day was Helen Rizzo, mother of Marian Shuler. Helen celebrated her 96 birthday recently.

Meeting changed

Members of the Eastern Star, Monroe Chapter 99, will not meet this Thursday due to the Maundy Thursday holiday. The regular meeting will be held next week at the same place and time.

Good Friday Service

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is hosting a Good Friday service Friday, April 2, at Neola Methodist Church, 738 Neola Rd., Stroudsburg, beginning at 1 p.m.

Hospice training

PinnacleHealth Hospice will provide volunteer training to area residents willing to provide assistance and support to terminally ill individuals and their families. Training sessions will begin the week of April 13, with daytime and evening sessions to accommodate potential volunteer's schedules.

Evening sessions will begin April 13, from 6-9 p.m., then continue every Tuesday through May 4. Daytime sessions will begin April 15, from 1-4 p.m., and continue through May 6. All sessions will be held at 301 Norwegian Plaza, Pottsville.
