Mr. and Mrs. Norman Ellis

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Ellis of Penn Forest Township are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. They were married Nov. 21, 1959, at the Huguenot Reform Church in Staten Island, New York, by Dr. Winfield Burggraaff and the Rev. Charles Little, pastor.

Mrs. Ellis is the daughter of the late Ed and Gudron Hadden. Her husband is the son of the late Norman and Doris Ellis.

They have three children: Roger Ellis, Holly Ellis and Rick Ellis.

They have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan N. Vavro

Ashley Marie Sabol, daughter of Donna and Thomas Sabol of Beaver Meadows, was united in marriage to Jonathan Neal Vavro, son of Anne and Frank Vavro of Andreas on May 31, 2014, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tamaqua. The Rev. William Linkhorst officiated the double ring ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose Aimee Sabol of Beaver Meadows to be her maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Stephanie White of Rochester, New York; Brianne Moyer of Tamaqua; and Chelsea Hoffman of Beaver Meadows.

Edward Rummel of Tamaqua will observe his 88th birthday on Wednesday.

He is married to the former Dorothy Herring. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 21.

Ed is a son of the late Edward G. and Jennette Rummel and graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1944.

In 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a radio operator on a tank assigned to the 67th Tank Battalion, 2nd Armored Division.

He spent more than two years in the European Theater of Operations and was awaiting transport to the Pacific theater when World War II ended.

Mr. and Mrs. James Carroll

Mr. and Mrs. James Carroll of Jim Thorpe recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They were married Oct. 31, 1964, by the Rev. Francis Adolf at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe.

Mrs. Carroll is the former Kathryn Felker, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Felker of Jim Thorpe. Her husband is the son of the late James and Jetta Carroll, also of Jim Thorpe.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenmore L. Dotter

Mr. and Mrs. Glenmore L. Dotter of Penn Forest Township will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in January.

They recognized the occasion with a gathering last month for family and friends at Whispering Pines Banquet Hall at Penn Forest Fire Company No. 1.

They were married Jan. 16, 1965, by the Rev. Francis Adolf at St. Joseph Church in Jim Thorpe.

Mrs. Dotter is the former Ellen M. Herman, daughter of the late Helen Kochmar Herman and Leonard Herman of Jim Thorpe.

Her husband is the son of the late Clara Meckes Dotter and Mal Dotter of Jim Thorpe.

William Swenson Jr. and Jennel Yelito

William Swenson Jr. and Jennel Yelito, together with their families, have announced their engagement.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of David Yelito of Coaldale and Diane and Terry Miller of Nesquehoning. A graduate of Moravian College, she holds two master's degrees in education from Wilkes University.

She is employed by the Tamaqua Area School District, as a sixth-grade reading teacher and as head girls tennis coach.

Her fiance is the son of Maria and William Swenson of East Stroudsburg. He graduated from DeSales University with a degree in business management.

Joseph and Carol (Knepper) Colecio of Tresckow recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Nov. 7, 1964.

The Colecios have one daughter, Roseann (Colecio) Gabos, and her husband, Calvin, of Beaver Meadows; and one son, Anthony Colecio, and his wife, Jennifer, of Weatherly.

They also have four grandchildren, Santino Gabos, and Amanda, Alexis and Antonio Colecio.

In September they traveled to the West Coast in celebration of their golden anniversary.

On Nov. 1 they were honored at a dinner celebration with their family.

Lois Holman

Lois Evelyn (Sands) Holman, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior community in Weatherly, is celebrating her 101st birthday on Nov. 1.

Born in Hazleton in 1913, Lois was married to Allan Williams for 47 years until his passing in 1979, and to David Holman Sr. for 10 years until his passing in 2000.

Lois is a member of the Hazleton Chapter of the American Red Cross and received recognition for more than 50 years of service. She was instrumental in starting the Red Cross Bloodmobile in Weatherly and was also a volunteer worker in the Hazleton Red Cross office during World War II.

Martin Hutira

Martin Hutira, Locust Valley, Barnesville recently celebrated his 94th birthday.

He was born Oct. 23,1920, at the homestead in Locust Valley to John Hutira and Anna Sako Hutira, both originally from Czechoslovakia. He had one older sister, Sue Dougherty, and two older brothers, John and Steve, all deceased. He has one younger brother, Paul Hutira of Orwigsburg, who also just celebrated his 92nd birthday.
