Mrs. Matushka Lovey Ropitsky and the Very Rev. Paul Ropitsky

On May 17, St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Coaldale honored the Very Rev. Paul Ropitsky and Matushka Lovey Ropitsky on the occasion of his 50th year of ordination into the priesthood in 1965. It is also the 50th anniversary of their marriage.

Rev. Ropitsky was born in Mayfield. His wife was born in Olyphant.

They were married in All Saint's Orthodox Church in Olyphant on May 16, 1965. They have one son, Michael, of Michael's Photography in Frackville.

Zachary and Evan Hlavaty

HLAVATY Twin boys, Evan Michael Hlavaty and Zachary Mervyn Hlavaty, were born at 6:05 a.m. and 6:22 a.m. respectively, on April 5, 2015, to Melissa A. and Stephen J. Hlavaty of Lewisburg.

They were born at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Evan weighed 5 pounds and measured 19 inches long.

Zachary weighed 4 pounds, 12 ounces, and measured 17.5 inches long.

They were welcomed home by an older brother, William Joseph, who is 3 years old.

Their maternal grandmother is Kathleen O. DeForge of Mifflinburg.

LaRue and George Manhart

LaRue E. Manhart of Franklin Township recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was born on March 31, 1925, in Big Creek, near Wild Creek Dam. She is the daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Stoudt of Big Creek. Her husband, the Rev. George Manhart, celebrated his 92nd birthday on May 12.

LaRue's friends and family surprised her with a surprise birthday party on March 30 at People's EC fellowship hall.

Brittni Bretz and Dane DiStanislao

The engagement of Brittni Jo Bretz to Dane Robert DiStanislao has been announced by their parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Kenneth Bretz Jr. and Coleen Bretz of Lehighton. She is a 2005 graduate of Lehighton Area High School. She is also a graduate of Temple University, where she earned a degree in criminal justice. She holds a master's degree from St. Joseph's University in criminology.

She is currently a supervisor at the Montgomery County Adult Probation Department.

Genevieve Sterlock

Genevieve Sterlock, who has resided at Heritage Hill Senior Community since 2011, is celebrating her 103rd birthday.

She was born in Rome, New York, on June 6, 1912. Genevieve moved to Jeansville in 1919, then to McAdoo in 1925.

She married Joseph Sterlock in 1935 and was married for 41 years until his death in 1977.

Genevieve has one daughter, Eugenia Bumbulsky of Hometown. She also has a granddaughter, Renee Wetterau, and one great-granddaughter of Drums.

Genevieve enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, watching sports on TV and praying the daily rosary.

Jay Stidham and Noelle Lesisko

The engagement of Noelle Lesisko of Tamaqua, and Jay Stidham, also of Tamaqua, has been announced by both of their parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Tom and Christine Lesisko of New Ringgold.

She is a 2009 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. She graduated from Misericordia University in 2013, earning her bachelor of arts in mathematics with certification in secondary education. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in online teaching.

She is employed as a high school math teacher in the Shenandoah Valley School District.

Helen Williams

Helen Williams of Tamaqua recently celebrated her 102nd birthday. She was born April 2, 1913.

Helen was married to Horace Williams, who passed away in 1980. They lived in Hometown until 1952, when they moved to New Jersey.

She has three children. Jean Fisher of Whiting, New Jersey; Lydia Rowan of Tamaqua, with whom she resides; and Russell Williams of Union, New Jersey.

She has five grandchildren. A grandson passed away in 2008.

Helen has 15 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Norman Krepshaw

Norman Krepshaw, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, is celebrating his 96th birthday.

He was born on May 20, 1919, in Shamokin.

When he turned 13 he left school to work in the local coal mines. In his teenage years he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Fry.

On Jan. 2, 1940, they were married in St. Joseph's Church in Shamokin. They were married for 72 years until her passing in May 2012.

The engagement of Marcy L. Walck of Jim Thorpe to David L. Knauft Jr., also of Jim Thorpe, has been announced by their parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Jim and Michele Walck of Penn Forest Township. She is a 2006 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School and a 2008 graduate of Central Penn College in Harrisburg. She is employed as a caseworker at the Carbon County Assistance Office in Lehighton.
