Stanley M. Dakosty Jr. and Jessica R. Schmitt

Stan and Mary Dakosty of Tamaqua have announced the engagement of their son, Stanley Michael Dakosty Jr. to Jessica Rose Schmitt, daughter of Thomas and Nancy Schmitt of Lebanon, N.Y.

The bride-to-be graduated from Sherburne-Earlville High School, Sherburne N.Y. She also graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2007 with a bachelor of arts degree in dance and Media & Society and a minor in Arts & Education. She is currently pursuing a master of science degree in teaching in childhood education at SUNY Cortland.

Brandon D. Shimp and Gabrielle M. Rowlands

The engagement of Gabrielle Marie Rowlands to Brandon Daniel Shimp, both of Coopersburg, has been announced by the couple's parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Elizabeth Rowlands of Jim Thorpe. She is a 2005 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School. She graduated in 2009 from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor of science in EC/EL education. She went on to the University of Pittsburgh where she obtained a master's degree in library and information science.

She is currently employed at Bushkill Elementary as the school librarian.

Gregory Stewart and Taryn Rehrig

Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Rehrig, Lehighton, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stewart, Saylorsburg, announce the engagement of their children, Taryn Nicole Rehrig to Gregory Charles Stewart.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard R. Ahner, Lehighton, and Maryann Rehrig, Palmerton, and the late James Rehrig.

She is a 2007 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and is currently attending Bloomsburg University, where she is working toward a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

Mr. and Mrs. James Koch II of Palmerton celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 28. They were married at St. John's Union Church in Palmerton by the late Rev. M.L. Wahrmann.

Mrs. Koch is the former Ruth Straup of Parryville, daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Straup of Parryville. She worked most of her life as a homemaker.

Her husband is the son of the late Gertrude and James Koch of Walcksville. He retired from the former Pryofax Gas Company.

Sophie Madison Thigpen

THIGPEN A daughter, Sophie Madison Thigpen, was born to Stacy and William Thigpen of Tamaqua, at 5:35 p.m., Sept. 18, 2010, at Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces; and measured 19 1/2 inches.

Maternal grandparents are Brenda Hebelka of Coaldale and Matthew Allesch of Tamaqua.

Paternal grandparents are Kevin and Colleen Bauer of Lansford.

A daughter, Logan Alivia Gillespie, was born at 1:18 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2010 at Lehigh Valley Hospital to Loren and Patrick Gillespie of Jim Thorpe.

She weighed 7 pounds, 10 1/2 ounces and measured 21.5 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Clifford and Kathleen Hurley of Jim Thorpe. Maternal great-grandmother is Evelyn McGavin.

Paternal grandparents are Timothy and Patricia Herman of Jim Thorpe, and Bernie Gillespie and Debra Sebelin, also of Jim Thorpe. Paternal great-grandmother is Delores Gillespie of Jim Thorpe.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Greene Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Greene Jr. of Lehighton recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

They were married on Dec. 11, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Parryville.

Mr. Greene is the son of the late Norman and Florence (Andreas) Greene. Mrs. Greene is the daughter of the late Frank and Matrona (Dorward) Rehrig.

The Greenes have two children: Kim Henry, wife of Harold Henry of Lehighton; and Norman III, husband of Tracey Greene of Lehighton.

They also have five grandchildren: Timothy Knopf, Lehighton; and Emily, Heidi, Linsey and Norman IV, also of Lehighton.

Mr. and Mrs. John F. Gurcsik Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. John F. Gurcsik Jr. of Hometown celebrated their 25 wedding anniversary on Sept. 7. They were married in St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Cumberland, by Msgr. Joseph W. Leary.

Mrs. Gurcsik is the former Mary E. Coogan, daughter of James and Selina Coogan of New Cumberland. Her husband is the son of John Gurcsik of Cape May Court House, N.J., and Teresa Gurcsik of Sicklerville, N.J.

The couple has four children: Eileen M. Gurcsik, John F. Gurcsik III, James M. Gurcsik and Michael P. Gurcsik.
