Country star Josh Turner at Penn's Peak

On Saturday night at Penn's Peak, one of country music's rising stars will be performing in concert.

Josh Turner, whose hits include "Long Black Train" and "Would You Go With Me," will perform at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $42 and $37.

Whether it's with his deep, soulful voice, his South Carolina accent or his philosophy on life, Turner has never been one to hurry.

But a memorable country song recently convinced him to pick up his pace.

Vince Neil at Penn's Peak

Vince Neil, the lead vocalist of Motley Crue, brings his solo tour to Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe on Thursday.

The Voice of Motley Crue is headed to Penn's Peak Thursday night.

Fresh off of Crue Fest 2, frontman Vince Neil is out on a solo tour, showcasing his own material.

As a member of Motley Crue, along with Tommy Lee on drums, Nikki Sixx on bass and Mick Mars on guitar, Neil, a native of Compton, California who fronted the band Rock Candy prior to forming the Crue, roared out of Los Angeles in the 1980's, heading to the forefront of the Hair Metal band movement thanks to a dedication to rock and roll excess.

A weekend of rock at Penn's Peak

Music from three of the most recognized bands of rock n' roll will be performed this weekend at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

* Friday night, it's a double-header show with 2U doing songs from the rock band U2, as well as Invisible Sun singing hits of The Police. Concert time is 7:30 p.m. Admission is $24 at the door.

* On Saturday, Get the Led Out makes a return to the mountain top venue, doing a performance from Led Zeppelin. The show begins at 8 p.m. with ticket prices $23 to $33.

This is the second time this year at Get the Led Out is at The Peak.

Country singer Tracy Byrd performs Friday at Penn's Peak

A treat is in store for country music fans tomorrow night at Penn's Peak when appearing on stage is singer Tracy Byrd.

The talented performer had such hits as "Keeper of the Stars," "Drinkin' Bone," "Watermelon Crawl," and "Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo."

Tickets are $32 and $37. The show time is 8 p.m.

His first number one hit, "Holdin' Heaven," was released in 1993. It wasn't until 2002 that he scored his second chart topper, "Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo."

Byrd is a native Texan who is the National Spokesperson for Special Olympics.

Tesla comes to Penn's Peak on Friday

It's been nearly two-and-a-half decades that Tesla was formed, and four of the five original membersare still with the band.

Tomorrow night, the multi-platinum rock quintet, originallyfrom Northern California, makes a stop at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, with the concert starting at 8 o'clock. Opening will be Skidd, a band participating in the current "Forever More" tour.

Troy Luccketta, drummer for the band, spoke with us by phone from Des Moise, Iowa following sound check for a concert there on Tuesday.

A polka party Sunday at Penn's Peak

Two of the regions best polka bands will be bringing their music to Penn's Peak for a "Polkafest" at 2 p.m. Sunday.

On stage will be John Stanky & the Coalminers and The Pennsylvania Villagers. Doors open at 1 p.m. and there's a general admission fee of $13.

John Stanky, the proclaimed "Gentleman Of Polkas," began his musical career in 1945. He formed his first band in 1950, changing their name to the "Coalminers" in 1962, as some of the players worked the mines.

'Expect a freak-out, as usual'

The Tubes will be performing tomorrow night at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe.

John Waybill, lead vocalist of The Tubes, is excited about playing at Penn's Peak tomorrow night.

"It's great," he said of the venue. "We always have a great meet-and-greet. It's one of our best meet-and-greets of all our shows."

He added, "This is the perfect place to go because the stage is big and people can get close. It's about the perfect venue for us."

He prefaced this with, "Expect a freak-out as usual."

The Tubes perform at 8 p.m. Opening for them will be NightWind. Tickets at the door are $20.

America back at the Peak again

Since riding onto the pop charts in 1972 with ''A Horse with No Name'', America remains as popular as ever with its many fans.

Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell are favorites of the Penn's Peak crowd as well, and they will be returning to the Jim Thorpe area venue next week, on Thursday, Oct. 29, for an 8 p.m. show.

America was originally a trio, formed by the sons of American servicemen stationed in England. The band got the idea for its name from an Americana jukebox on the base where they were living, but it also reflected their roots as well.

Allman, Spyro Gyra to perform

Tickets go on sale Saturday for three concerts recently announced for Penn's Peak.

They are:

• Greg Allman on Wednesday, Dec. 30.

• Bruce in the USA on Saturday, Feb. 20.

• Spyro Gyra on Friday, April 23.

Meanwhile, within the next week, three concerts are scheduled.

Tomorrow night, the unique rockers The Tubes perform. Opening for them will be NightWind.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, America makes a return.

Then on Friday, Oct. 30, the classic rock band Tesla will entertain.
