A Lansford police officer was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a violent crash in the borough. Shorty after 4 p.m. a car driven by a man with a pregnant female passenger and a child were going down the Lansford - Summit Hill hill when the brakes gave out on the car. The car raced down the long, steep hill into Lansford and after making it through several intersections slammed into several vehicles at the intersection of Spring Garden and Patterson streets.
A Carbon County man is facing a charge of harassment, according to state police at Lehighton. Gene Warnkin, 33, of Lehighton, is facing a harassment count following an incident that occurred on June 17 about 11:15 p.m. in the1000 block of West Sunset Road in East Penn Township. Troopers said Warnkin became involved in a verbal argument with a 60-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman. The argument turned physical when Warnkin made contact with both victims. Charges will be filed.

Mitchell soars above the competition
Short of calling his own shot, Mike Mitchell made his intentions clear prior to the District 11 Track and Field Championships. “Districts is when it counts,” Mitchell said at the time. Coming off a runner-up finish in the long jump and a third-place result in the triple jump a week earlier at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference meet, Mitchell had all the motivation he needed going into districts.
