PPL Utilities has restored power to 1,647 customers in Penn Forest Township. A company spokesman said the outage was caused by a tree falling on wires. Power was restored at 3 p.m. A handful of Met-Ed customers remain without power in the Pleasant Valley area. The wet, heavy snow has caused many outages. After Wednesday's storm, more than 1,400 PPL customers were without electricity in the Times News coverage area.
The search is on for a suspect who apparently stole a vehicle from a driveway in Schuylkill County on Thanksgiving. Schuylkill Haven State Police said the incident occurred sometime between 1 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday at 2084 Long Run Road, North Manheim Township. The unknown person stole a black 2003 Dodge Neon, SXT, owned by Travis Umbenhauer, 24, of Schuylkill Haven, from his driveway. The keys for the vehicle were left on the driver's side floor at the time of the theft.
For the fourth time, a tree from Crystal Spring Farm in Lehighton will grace the White House. Officials from the White House made the trip to Mahoning Township in September to find the official Christmas tree at the Crystal Spring Tree Farm. After a selection process that took more than an hour, the three officials from the White House selected a 19 1/2-foot concolor fir to be the official White House Christmas Tree this year.
