No one makes clear bags for golf clubs or ski gear, which might pose a problem for some student-athletes in the Tamaqua Area School District. During a meeting of committees Tuesday, members of the Tamaqua Area School Board discussed revisions to existing school policies, such as the one for dress and grooming for students. According to the current policy, students must use clear, "see-through" backpacks to tote their school supplies, including sports gear.
A Bucks County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident in Monroe County. State police at Fern Ridge said Kymberly Ann Murray, 48, of Chalfont, was stopped about 7:45 p.m. on June 11 along Interstate 80 eastbound in Tobyhanna Township for committing numerous traffic violations. She was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. She was then placed under arrest and charged.

It might have taken a while to start, but the payoff was well worth the wait. After two consecutive rainouts, the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth semifinal between Franklin Township and East Stroudsburg finally got underway Wednesday night. Despite the repeated delays, the teams delivered a classic. Franklin capitalized on a balk call in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, and Ryan Malarkey did the rest with the game-winning hit in the eighth to send the Shockers into the championship...
Santina Marie Benech
Santina Marie Benech is celebrating her 90th birthday. She was born July 14, 1924, to Dominic and Caroline Jacobe. Her parents were Italian immigrants. She has lived her whole life in Tamaqua. She graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1943. On Sept. 22, 1945, she married her childhood sweetheart, Alfred Benech, when he returned from World War II. They were married for 65 years before his death in 2011.
