Washington Twp. woman punched trooper

A Lehigh County woman is in custody after allegedly punching a state trooper in the face.

Donna Hoffman, 48, of Washington Township, faces charges on one count each of aggravated assault, simple assault, and resisting arrest.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Barton Josefowiczof the Pennsylvania State Police:At 7:24 a.m. Thursday, trooper Miroslav Djindjievof the Pennsylvania State Police was investigating a 911 hang-up incident at Hoffman’s home.Hoffman was in the bedroom of the home and was irate and yelling.Djindjiev began speaking with her to calm her down, and Hoffman punched him in the left side of the face with a closed fist.Djindjiev told Hoffman she was under arrest and instructed her to place her hands behind her back. Instead, Hoffman wedged herself face first against a wall, shielding her hands.Djindjiev attempted to take Hoffman into custody while she was against the wall, instructing her to place her hands behind her back, but was unsuccessful.Djindjiev used substantial force to take Hoffman to the ground, but she clasped her hands together underneath her body.Djindjiev was able to free one of Hoffman’s arms and eventually handcuffed her and took her into custody.Hoffman was arraigned by District Judge Rod Beck of Slatington, who committed her to Lehigh County Prison under $50,000 straight bail.Her preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for March 16.
