Chestnuthill Twp. awards road contracts

The Chestnuthill supervisors held a second monthly meeting for June during which contractor were chosen for paving and for the Lake Mineola Road projects.

The Lake Mineola Road project includes improvements to the right-turn lane and resurfacing the area where construction will take place. There were three companies that bid on the project through the eBid online biding system.Costs ranged from $158,708.25 to $332,077.50. On a motion by Vice Chairman Chris Eckert the bid of $158,708.25 was accepted. The issuance of a contract is contingent upon the receipt of the Highway Occupancy Permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Northeast Site Contractors was the lowest bidder. The supervisors also added a $3,291.95 option to the award as well.A contract will also be awarded to Hanson Aggregates in the amount of $388,858.89 for summer paving projects. Seven companies submitted bids ranging in price from $388,858.89 to $521,884.95.The 10 roads that will be either fully or partially paved and striped this summer are Pheasant Run Drive, Glenwood Drive, Cotton Tail Lane, Silver Valley Road, Lynx Lane, Doney Road, Martin Lane, Long Mountain Drive, Adirondack Drive and Palisades Drive. Also on the agenda Tuesday evening was an extension for land development plan of Cylde Skaflestad for a two-story building on Marion Lane. Skaflestad's plans were originally presented to the board in 2006 but the project has been on hold.Skaflestad attended the meeting and requested a one-year extension to begin work on the project. Due to the length of time since the original plans were submitted, the board and the township planner and engineer were unsure if the plan was complete or approved and whether or not the plan would comply with the recent ordinance revisions. It was agreed that a review of the records would be needed to determine if an extension could be made or if Skaflestad would have to revise the plans in accordance with the revised ordinance. The matter was tabled until the next supervisors meeting.A resolution was approved to apply for an Automatic Red Light Enforcement Grant. The grant would be in the amount of $19,281 for the purchase of two radar speed trailers and two radar traffic counters. The township applies yearly for the grant but has not been successful in the past.Bills in the amount of $465,644.20 were approved for payment. The number was unusually high due to the purchase of a grinder for the transfer station in the amount of $316,708.47 which was approved at a meeting earlier this month.Supervisor Harry Miller was not in attendance at the meeting.
