Parryville hires Keystone Engineering

The Parryville borough council was joined Wednesday night by Keystone Engineering to hear a presentation to be the borough's engineers.

Head engineer Eric Snyder gave an in-depth presentation of what he can offer to the borough in terms of engineering help.Snyder explained how he has worked for many municipalities including Palmerton and has helped with many things including road repair and many other jobs.He also explained that he is unlike like most engineers in the way that things should be dealt with on a to-scale basis."I understand that the budget here isn't like some of the bigger municipalities, and we can explore more cost-efficient options to solve some problems," Snyder said. Some of these ideas included recycling old road material to create coal patch. He also discussed the use of road grants and low-interest loans to gain money for certain projects.Following the questions council had for Snyder, he also responded with a few questions of his own.Snyder's main question was, "As a borough, what do you consider your biggest problem?"Council members said that roads are the biggest problem currently.Snyder said that there are many options through dirt and gravel road grants that can be applied for to help make all of the roads drivable.Council asked Snyder to step out for a second while they made their decision and upon return they hired Eric Snyder and Keystone Engineering as borough engineers."The biggest thing that stood out to me is that they are local and that they will be closely available when we need them," Council President Cathy Hawk said.Following the engineer presentation and deliberation, council discussed work that has been done such as the street signs that have been installed and coal patch that has been added to areas of road deterioration. The council ended the meeting by asking Parryville residents to maintaintheir property as the borough's code officer will be doing inspections for violations.
