A driver swerved to avoid striking something in front of his car and struck a utility pole in Bowmanstown on July 15 at 12:50 a.m.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said John M. Schaeffer, 45, of Palmerton, was driving a 2003 Hyundai XG350L and attempting to leave a parking space at the Bowmanstown Diner when he failed to see the pole upon swerving to avoid the object. The car sustained disabling damages to its front driver's side quarter panel.Schaeffer was uninjured.
