Nesquehoning fills vacant council seat

Nesquehoning Borough Council filled its vacant seat that was created earlier this month with the resignation of longtime councilman Donato DeMarco.

On Wednesday, the board unanimously voted to accept the sole letter of interest submitted by Michael Radocha Sr.Nesquehoning Mayor Sam Kitchko then swore in Radocha, who took his seat at the table and the meeting commenced.Radocha will fill the council position until the end of 2017 and must run to fill the two remaining years of that term in the upcoming primary and general elections if he chooses to do so.Radocha is a 25-year resident of the borough of Nesquehoning and said after the meeting that the reason for submitting his name to fill the vacancy was to "start controlling the cost for the taxpayers," and he hopes to be able to help "keep the taxes the same."In other matters, the board voted on the recommendation of Mayor Sam Kitchko and police Chief Sean Smith to hire Joseph Starosta as a part-time police officer for the borough pending any other requirements he needs to fulfill. He will be paid at the existing pay scale set by the borough.
